Updated: Jun 25

With a thirst for knowledge and a heart full of wanderlust, Niki Chan, a fourth-year BSc in Public Health student, embarked on a soul-stirring expedition through our school's student exchange programme to Maastricht University.

“Studying at Maastricht University as an exchange student is a rewarding and memorable experience. It offers a diverse and inclusive environment, and the opportunity to explore different cultures and countries.

Maastricht University is located in the Netherlands. The university is known for its Problem-Based Learning (PBL) system, which encourages active student participation and fosters critical thinking and collaboration, this learning system offers me a chance to experience different learning ways. The university hosts a significant number of international students, providing ample opportunities to meet people from different backgrounds and cultures, so I grabbed the opportunities and made friends with students from all over the world, such as students from America and German. This multicultural atmosphere enriches my overall learning experience and enhances my cross-cultural understanding.

One of the highlights of studying at Maastricht University is the city itself. Maastricht is a charming and historic city located in the southern part of the Netherlands. It offers a unique blend of Dutch, Belgian, and German influences, creating a rich cultural tapestry. The city is famous for its picturesque architecture, lively squares, and vibrant café culture. As an exchange student, I can explore Maastricht's historical landmarks, enjoy its culinary delights, and experience its vibrant arts and music scene. Moreover, Maastricht is nearby Germany and Belgium, which make it convenient to explore other countries. Last but not least, studying abroad provides a tranquil pace that alleviates stress, allowing for a greater sense of relaxation and contributing to improved mental wellbeing.”
